WINTER HALF-DAY WADE TRIP

Winter is a great time to enjoy the sport of fly fishing in the Vail Valley. Streams are devoid of anglers and the trout are hungry all winter. We fish during the warmest part of the day to maximize your chances of finding big trout. With special winter pricing, this trip is a great choice for vacationers looking for a fun alternative to Vail’s world-class skiing. Travel time is minimal and within minutes from our shop we have access to some fantastic fishing on the beautiful Eagle and Colorado Rivers as well as Gore Creek. With our professional guides’ thorough instruction and assistance, the two-person Half-Day Winter Wade is ideal for husbands and wives, parents and children, and friends looking to enjoy an especially quiet time on the water. Half-day winter wade trips last approximately four hours.

What to Wear

The weather in the Colorado Rockies is unpredictable and always changing. It is important to head out on the water prepared for the full range of conditions. Also, please keep in mind that you'll be fishing at high altitude – hydration and sun protection are key. Here is how we recommend dressing for a Winter Wade Trip:

Winter:

  • Top
Baselayer or long underwear that wicks moisture and dries quickly.
Insulating midlayer (fleece, down, or synthetic).
    Waterproof/breathable shell.
  • Bottom
Baselayer or long underwear that wicks moisture and dries quickly.
Breathable pant or sweatpant (to wear under waders).
  • Footwear
Wool or synthetic socks to wear with boots and waders.
  • Accessories
    Polarized sunglasses.
    Warm hat or beanie.
Warm gloves (some anglers prefer fingerless).
    Hand and feet warmers.

Don't stress if you're missing something from this list – our retail store is fully stocked with everything you could need for your fly fishing trip. If you can arrive a few minutes early, our retail staff will get you set up with any fishing attire you need.
