At Vail Valley Anglers, we welcome beginners and experts alike. We have a friendly, knowledgeable staff and invite you to experience one of fly fishing’s best kept secrets…winter fly fishing.
You don’t have to wait until summer to experience the best fly fishing Colorado has to offer. Try our guided winter fly fishing trips and experience one of the best kept secrets in Colorado!
Every guided winter trip includes a clean pair of Simms waders and wading boots, a cooler full of bottled water, fly rods and reels, all safety gear, transportation to and from the river, and an experienced, friendly fly fishing guide. All full-day trips include a freshly prepared streamside lunch (with warm soup and beverages to take the chill off). Lunch can be added to any half-day trip for an additional cost. Winter wade and ice fishing trips usually last between four to five hours, and winter float trips usually last between six to eight hours.
Guided trips do not include flies, a Colorado fishing license, or guide gratuity. All trip participants over the age of 16 are required to carry a valid Colorado fishing license with them while fishing. We strongly encourage all of our trip participants to purchase their license online prior to the trip in order to save time and get on the water sooner.
In order to make your winter fly fishing trip more enjoyable, please come prepared with sunglasses, long underwear or baselayer insulation, a fleece jacket and pants, gloves, a warm hat and a winter coat. Dress in layers just like you would for skiing or other outdoor winter activities.
At Vail Valley Anglers, safety is our top priority, which is why drugs and alcohol are not permitted on any of our fly fishing trips. We reserve the right to cancel any trip that becomes unsafe or unfishable. We will reschedule your class for a future date and try to make accommodations to your schedule, taking into consideration that the summer season is our busiest time of the year.
